Been another long while...just been busy getting older (though not exactly wiser:P).
Had an interesting discussion with a friend the other day. He's been in a relationship for a while now...so I asked him his thoughts about his relationship and where it was presently and where he thought it would go...
He wasn't really sure...about whether this was what he wanted...about whether the girl he was with was the right one...or even if she had what he wanted. He said that he found it difficult to figure out the answers as he had few points of reference. So I asked whether this was fair to the girl...especially as their views were clearly not aligned...he wasn't sure...he said maybe one day he would figure out what he wanted (or didn't want). At the end of the day, their relationship is their journey...and it is their views and choices that will dictate the course of their lives. Will they be happy if they continue? Does the love of one sufficiently counteract the ambivalence of the other? Not sure...only they know and will find out...
Made me think a little though...there's a song...to paraphrase...should we be with the one we love or should we love the one we are with? Both require courage...but in different ways...the former comes with it great risk presently and the latter with great risk in the future. Some quotes:
Our lives improve only when we take chances - and the first and most difficult risk we can take is to be honest with ourselves.
-Walter Anderson
Great deeds are usually wrought at great risks.
-Herodotus
If my quotes are any indication, I think it is obvious what I believe... ;-)
