Just called a local hobby store to ask about a game a friend is looking for...here's the exchange

Me: Hi, I was wondering if you had ___?
Person: Uh, we don't have that in stock, but I'm sure we can get it for you.
Me: Ok, how long would it take to order it?
Person: Um, I'm not sure...
Me: Would you please check?
Person: Um, I don't think we can get it.
Me: Oh ok (spoken); why did you tell me you could then? (thought)
